A Day in the Life

Of a CIGNA intern in DC.

I intern in the law and policy office, that consists of three people, two lobbyists and one administrative assistant. I'm working on two project for the remainder of my internship which requires me to do a lot of political reading

For the most part, I enjoy it, I like being educated on topics that people constantly throw around yet don't bother to clarify. But I genuinely dislike the media. I went to the Newseum a few days ago (totally worth the $20 admission) and walking around there made the media sound so noble. They have the "right to report the truth". The truth is one thing, oversaturating the media with your opinion parading as fact is quite another.

I got into a discussion once where I came to understand that even your perceptions, however skewed they may be, are versions of the truth. Truth is reality and if its real to you, it becomes your truth.

However, what frustrates me about the media is the constant slant that comes with reporting on political events and legislation. I'm not looking to adopt your truth, I'm looking to get the bottom line to create my own. I'm not looking for your opinion on how this is going to affect America in a few years down the line, I'm looking for an understanding of the law. I'm not looking to read the 183 pages of the brief, I just want you to summarize the facts for me.

But due to journalistic incompetence with reporting (along with failure to actually read the materials that they're reporting on) I've resorted to reading both saides of the opinion. Liberals have good points to make as well as Conservatives. Its exhausting, to be so thorough, but I've found other sites that tire of the one-sided reporting and its been especially helpful. Sites like realclearpolitics.com and polifact.com have become my new favorite sites. We'll see if this political mania lasts into the fall...
